| The Ballet of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Düsseldorf – Duisburg had been under the leadership of Erich Walter since 1964, and had promoted soloists like Joan Cadzow, Monique Janotta, Falco Kapuste, Peter Breuer and Paolo Bortoluzzi. Paolo Bortoluzzi took over the company on Walter’s death in 1984 until 1991. When Heinz Spoerli took the direction in 1991, he united the members of the Opera-ballet to the dancers of the Ballet company to make a large group of over 60 dancers and brought to the repertoire many of the ballets he had created in Basle. Peter Appel, Spoerli’s long time assistant, became a colleague and a close friend. Spoerli also choreographed new ballets for the restructured company and invited choreographers of international repute. Very fast the D.O.R. became one of the leading companies in Germany.
At the term of his contract in 1996, Heinz Spoerli left for Zürich, and Youri Vamos, his successor, asked me to stay as ballet-master. |

Two years later I was offered a contract by Uwe Scholz as ballet-master in Leipzig. During my seven years stay in Düsseldorf I gave evening classes at die Werkstatt, Tanzhaus N.R.W. where I had the opportunity to present on stage three of my creations: Isadora: without limits, Choice and Twins. |
